The report card provides a summary of a student's progress toward achievement of the Florida Sunshine State Standards. However, it is important to note that the report card should serve only as one component of a comprehensive communication system between teachers and parents.
Report Card Information
The report card is completed four times a year, at the end of each 9-week period. The components of the report card are:
- Sunshine State Standards within Content Areas
- Special Area Reporting Section
- Social Development Reporting Section
- Comments Section
- Attendance
Content Area Standards Sections
There are several sections listed by content that report a student's achievement of standards within that area. Teachers should use documented evidence based on grade-level benchmarks to evaluate achievement. Grade-level benchmarks are found by content area at the FLDOE Website: http://flstandards.org/
OCPS has also written task analyses for each grade level content area. Each Task Analysis will aid in the understanding and depth of the Sunshine State Standards and list specific skills to teach for mastery of the standard. All task analyses can be found on the OCPS internet under curriculum services.
Although factors such as student effort, work habits and behavior are important, they should not directly influence the evaluation of performance in the content areas. These factors are addressed in the Social Development section of the report card.
The following scale is used to determine a child's "Code of Development" which indicates where students are in the progress toward the standard.

The child is still working on the standard and will continue to need support to reach satisfactory Progress or mastery |

The child is emerging in the skill but will need satisfactory progress or mastery |

Unsatisfactory (0 - 59) |
The child has made little or no progress towards the standard and needs strong support and intervention to reach satisfactory progress or mastery |

For the content areas of reading and math, teachers will also give students a "Grade Level Performance" score of Above, At or Below. These three terms are used to give an overview of where the child is in relation to his/her overall development and progress toward all the grade level standards.
